Oki Siksika, March Madness is right around the corner, and we’ve partnered with SHRed to support our athletes in learning about concussions, including an opportunity to participate in a concussion partnership.
Did you know that concussions are one of the most common, and most misunderstood, injuries in sport? Concussions are brain injuries caused by
blows to the head or anywhere on the body that jars the head. Symptoms can include headache, dizziness, nausea, feeling overtired…check out the poster for more signs and symptoms. But: recognizing the signs of concussion early can make all the difference.
This month, we’re looking for March Madness participants like YOU to help improve how we understand, recognize and manage concussions. Here’s what’s in it for you:
– Learn more about sport-related concussion and what to do if one happens
– Access follow-up with a health care professional if you suspect a concussion
Here’s how to get involved:
1) Sign up using the instructions below (scan the QR code or click the link: https://redcap.shredconcussions.ca/surveys/?s=W8A3DAJYLDPYPJFX)
2) Complete a short survey (takes about 20 minutes)
3) Let the SHRed team know if you sustain a suspected concussion or injury during the March Madness events: shredconcussions@ucalgary.ca
Your participation helps protect not just you, but every athlete in our community. Let’s play hard AND play smart.
