Promoting Sustainable Food Production & Health Eating

In the spring of 2021, Siksika Nutrition Services partnered with the Buffalo Berry Farm to host the Backyard Niitawaakiiks Program. Siksika Nation members participated in educational workshops and five families were supplied materials for building chicken coups and caring for chickens. This program allowed participants to harvest both eggs and meat-birds to create their own sustainable food system.

By building connections between the community and family, we strengthened both local and traditional food systems while also acting as a land-based therapy.

Pre & Postnatal Nutrition

Siksika Nutrition Services promotes nutrition awareness, education, and engaging activities for individuals and groups during the prenatal, postnatal, breastfeeding and lactation phases.

Healthy Eating in Schools

We collaborate with local schools to advance nutrition awareness and education, develop and refine menu offerings, food budgeting and implementing nutrition programs.
