Clinical Nutrition Services

Eating well helps to reduce the risk of physical health problems like heart disease and diabetes. In partnership with Siksika Community Health, individual and group sessions are available to Siksika Nation members needing education and information on managing chronic disease through nutrition.

These sessions are centered on practical food and nutrition choices. We focus on the reconnection with physical, emotional, spiritual and mental relationship with food for our clients. Services also specialize in chronic disease prevention and general health promotion.

Promoting Sustainable Food Production

In the spring of 2021, Siksika Nutrition Services partnered with the Buffalo Berry Farm to host the Backyard Niitawaakiiks Program. Siksika Nation members participated in educational workshops and five families were supplied materials for building chicken coups and caring for chickens. This program allowed participants to harvest both eggs and meat-birds to create their own sustainable food system.

By building connections between the community and family, we strengthened both local and traditional food systems while also acting as a land-based therapy.

Hampers will be provided to those families who are under isolation measures so that they can comply with COVID-19 guidelines. Hot meals are available to families, depending on the circumstance.

If you or your household is isolating, please contact the Siksika CDC team for more information on food isolation support.
