Why Might Someone Need Home Care?

There are a variety of reasons that someone might require healthcare services in their home, for example:

  • People living with chronic illness;
  • Those who are elderly and may find it challenging to move about;
  • Individuals who are recovering from surgery;
  • People living with mobility challenges;
  • Those with disabilities;
  • Individuals requiring end-of-life care.

Siksika Home Care is committed to providing quality nursing and support services to First Nations residents living on the Siksika Nation.

Home Care Services Begin with a Referral

To receive Home Care services, you must be First Nations with an assessed need, under a doctor’s care and living on Siksika Nation. Referrals to Home Care are accepted from hospitals and healthcare providers such as physicians and nurses, as well as from community / family members. You can also refer yourself.

When we receive a referral, a Registered Nurse will contact you and set up an appointment for a home visit. If we receive a referral on the weekend, we will attempt to contact you on the next business day. The Registered Nurse will come to your home and ask you questions about your medical history and medications.

During this visit, the nurse will explain what services are available, and with your input, a plan will be developed, based on your needs. Families are encouraged to be present for this visit. Your plan may include visits by Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Aides, Homemakers, or Occupational Therapists. Home visits will continue until you are well, or no longer require services.

Services provided include:
  • nursing services
