After 27 years of dedicated service, we celebrate Flora Royal, lovingly known as “Momma Flo” to those close to her, as she begins her well-deserved retirement. Flo joined our Siksika Health Services team in 1998 as a Community Health Representative, bringing with her a wealth of experience and education, including her geriatrics nursing aide certification (now referred to as “Healthcare Aide” (HCA) certification) and her Community Health Representative (CHR) diploma from Portage College, where she graduated as class valedictorian in 1997. Her journey to us included meaningful work in Calgary with urban Aboriginal health outreach and HIV prevention programs, experiences that shaped her compassionate approach to community care.

Throughout her tenure, Momma Flo has touched countless lives across so many of our Siksika Health, and most specifically Siksika Community Health programs. From maternal child health and immunizations to elder care, school health screenings, diabetes support, mental health programs, and her leadership of our Communicable Disease Control program, Flo has been a significant part of our community health efforts. Her clients have become like family to her, and she to them, often going far beyond her duties to provide practical assistance like transportation, groceries, and most importantly, a listening ear and warm hug. Mama Flo’s beautiful smile, infectious laugh, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by her fellow CHRs and our entire organization. We are forever grateful for her dedication to our community and the legacy of care she leaves behind.
