Siksika Nation issues fire restriction

Due to the dry, windy, and warm conditions that exist and are forecasted, Siksika Nation Emergency Services has issued a fire restriction effective April 28, 2023. The rapidly changing weather conditions may lead to a fire ban, with little to no notice.

A fire restriction prohibits the use of wood campfires on public lands. Fire permits may be restricted, suspended, or cancelled and no new fire permits will be issued.

Approved Recreational Fires

  • Ceremonial smudges and sweats 
  • Private land campfires within a metal ring device or dug into the ground with some type of non-combustible material surrounding the pit.
  • Portable propane fire pits contained within designated fire pits
  • Barbeque charcoal briquettes
  • Propane/natural gas powered appliances
  • Indoor fire places
  • Open flame oil devices

Prohibited

  • Fireworks
  • Exploding targets
  • Public land campfires
