Siksika Health Fair Return a Huge Success
After two years of being apart, Siksika Health Services hosted our 20th annual Siksika Health Fair on June 6-7, at the Siksika Piiksapi Memorial Arbor.
The Health Fair is Siksika Health Services’ premiere event that provides our community members with the opportunity to learn, connect and engage with our departments and partners in health and wellness.
The first day was headlined by a conversation between Rob Kerr, Telly Hunt and our special guest, Bret “The Hitman” Hart where the community had the opportunity to hear about Bret’s story and ask questions about his life and career.
A MOU was signed shortly after between SIksika Health Services and the Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency (URSA) to collaborate and create a residential care setting for young Siksika Nations individuals with developmental disabilities promoting safety, growth, learning, and happiness.
In the afternoon of June 6, an Olympic panel consisting of Steve Mesler, Clara Hughes, Isabelle Weidemann and Waneek Horn-Miller took place and community members learned more about their experiences as elite athletes.
Both days featured booths from partners and friends of SHS and an extra special touch was food trucks on day two for community members to indulge during the day.
Mental Wellness Day was day two with the theme, “Hope is the bridge between the possible and impossible.” Headliners for day two included Blood Tribe Elder Dr. Leroy Little Bear who spoke about his life’s work and the Hope Rising team who provided talks on the science behind hope and mental wellness.
The Mental Wellness day also offered holistic mental wellness workshops including DIY terrarium class, painting, traditional teachings and more. Community members were treated to amazing activities including a golf simulator, photo booth, massages and relaxation areas around the arbor for a rest between all the great information.
Overall, the two day Siksika Health Fair was a tremendous success and a great way to connect with each other and meet new friends.
