DESCRIPTION:The Siksika Addictions program would like to invite Siksika Nation to attend our NAAW (National Addictions Awareness Week) event. \nNAAW is a national event that is held annually\, usually the third week of November\, that highlights solutions to address alcohol and drug misuse. It provides an opportunity to provide education and awareness of addictions to the community. The overall focus is to provide prevention support\, talk about treatment and recovery\, and look at positive solutions for change. \nService areas will set up booths that have specific topics to Addictions and prevention supports\, the youth will have the opportunity to engage in conversation with the teams: i.e.\, Ask me about Heroin\, ask me about Alcohol\, etc \nThe event will take place on Thursday\, November 23\, 2023\, located at the Deerfoot Sportsplex-Gym side.  Bagged lunches will be provided. We will also provide incentives and door prizes for the youth.

Children of all abilities will be taught social skills in various situations that pertain to that of a child in the community and School! \nStudents will be able to learn and develop social skills such as: \n\nSelf-regulation\nEmotional regulation\nProblem-solving\nEmpathy\ncommunication skills\nself-management\nappropriate conversation\nEmotional Awareness\nbody awareness\ntransitioning\nbeing a part of a group and so much more!\n\nSocial skills are taught in indoor and outdoor playground scenarios\, group games\, arts and crafts\, and with a fun theme to incorporate similar interests into friendship building. \nWe also offer individual counseling to Children/Teens from K-12. DESCRIPTION:Siksika Wellness Outdoors is hosting a group hike at Troll Falls. The hike will be facilitated by Indigescape into the Canadian Rockies with Buffalo Stone Woman – Iinisskimmaakii. The group will meet at Troll Falls Trailhead in Kananaskis\, AB. on Saturday\, March 4. We hope you have join us to experience hiking through a Blackfoot lens—learning about relationship and connection to the land. \nThis hike is rated easy\, it is a  4km round trip that will take approximately  3-4 hours\, with a 178 m elevation. No prior hiking experience is required.  There are 10 spots available and the cost is free. \nWellness Outdoors is an initiative that is supported by Siksika Mental Health & Wellness. Through physical literacy\, the outdoor activities are designed to encourage and support the health and wellbeing of community members through exposure to the healing effects of nature while. \nYouth\, families\, and community members at risk or experiencing mental health difficulties and social isolation can benefit from participating in Wellness Outdoors. SUMMARY:Siksika Sport For All: Adaptive Lacrosse
DESCRIPTION:Community Mental Health and Wellness and SN7 will be collaborating to implement an adaptive recreation program that will modify sports activities in be inclusive of all abilities. \nAdaptive sports provide modifications to a particular sport so that athletes will be given the opportunity to participate with appropriate accessible accommodations. The key principle of adaptive sports and recreation is inclusivity. The Siksika Sports for All Recreation Program will offer a variety of adaptive sports beginning with a 6-week adaptive lacrosse program. \nThis program will be drop-in style at any time during the event hours. \nThe Autism and Asperger Friendship Society (AFFS)\, which is a program that offers specialized sports\, supports\, and recreational respite to many families with all abilities will assist in the facilitation of the instruction\, equipment purchase and lacrosse instructors. \nThe AFFS coordinators are specialists in the field of disability and sports and are excited to mentor the SN7 youth group so that many adaptable sports will offered and so that SSARP will be sustainable in inclusive programming. \nOther adaptable sports that will be offered to the community will be Goal Ball\, wheelchair basketball\, wheelchair lacrosse\, adaptive running\, sledge hockey and sitting volleyball. \nThe SSARP committee is committed in their dedication to provide this long awaited inclusive sports program so that all Siksika members with all abilities will be given the opportunity to participate in any sport. \nDISCLAIMER: Participants are asked to bring their own caged helmet if possible\, there may be a small number of helmets available for use but this is not a guarantee.

DESCRIPTION:Siksika Mental Health and Wellness will be hosting Bear Witness Day on May 10\,2022 at the arbor from 2-7pm. \nIt is a hope inspired event to promote Siksika children’s equity in wellness and to create awareness of inclusivity and acceptance for our children and youth who have extraordinary needs. \nWe will ensure that the event is accessible\, and “sensory friendly” in our activities and programming for the day. A tipi will be set up outside the arbor with Elders to pray for our children and face paint them. \nFrom about 3-7pm a family carnival style event will be set up inside in the arbor. Along with an indoor movie screen for those who wish to be stationary and participate by observing. There will also be a temporary sensory/calming room set up and sensory kits made available for those children who require extra support in order for them to participate.
