The following requirements apply to people travelling by air and/or by land
While travel between countries is allowable, it is not encouraged at this time due to ongoing COVID-19 risks.
- Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is the most significant way to reduce risk of severe health outcomes associated with the virus; some travel-related exemptions are made for individuals who are fully immunized, detailed below.
Individuals traveling between Canada and the US are encouraged to refer to both the Canada Border Services Agency, and the US Customs websites for up-to-date information regarding travel:
For Travel to Canada, Including Returning to Canada from Abroad: (Aug. 31 summary – please refer to sources listed above for up-to-date, comprehensive information)
- Be eligible to enter Canada (visit https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/wizard-start to take a quiz to find out if you’re eligible at this time)
- Complete a pre-entry COVID-19 test
- Test must be done within 72 hours (3 days) of your entry into Canada
- Tests completed on Siksika Nation may not satisfy eligibility criteria. The most guaranteed COVID-19 testing source for travel is DynaLife (cost is ~$130-$150/test): https://www.dynalife.ca/travel
- Bring your test results with you when travelling to present at Customs desk
- Complete a COVID-19 arrival test (usually a home test kit)*
- The test provided is the test the must be completed, as they are sent to a federal lab as part of the federal travel program. Alternative tests (i.e. those complete by Siksika Health Services) do not qualify for this purpose.
- Positive test results require isolation for at least 10 days or until symptoms have resolved – whichever is longer
*not all fully vaccinated travellers need to complete an arrival test; only fully vaccinated travellers who are selected for randomized arrival testing need to complete an arrival test
- Travellers who are not fully immunized are required to isolate for 14 days after the date they arrive in Canada, and take another COVID test on day 8 of their isolation period**
** Fully vaccinated travellers will not have to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival back in Canada
Fully Vaccinated Exemptions: in order to be exempt from isolation requirements, travellers must:
- Have received the full series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine or a combination of accepted vaccines
- Have received your last dose at least 14 days prior to the day you enter Canada
- Example: if your last dose was anytime on Thursday July 1st, then Thursday July 15th would be the first day that you meet the 14 day condition
- Upload your proof of vaccination in the ArriveCAN app: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/arrivecan.html
- At this time there are no exceptions to using this app
- The vaccines provided by Siksika Health Services are acceptable for this purpose
- Be sure to bring your proof of vaccination documents (dose reminder card, vaccine information form) with you when crossing the border to present at Customs desk
- If you received your vaccine from Siksika Health Services and require new documents for this purpose, contact the Siksika Health & Wellness Centre at 403-734-5600
Register for MyHealth Records for East Access to Your Health Records:
- Having easy access to your health records can assist with travel, in cases where health information is required for travel (i.e. during the COVID-19 pandemic)
- Anyone over the age of 14 can register for MyHealth Records
- Heres how to sign up:

- Sign up for a MyAlberta Digital ID (accessible on the website listed above)
- Login to MyHealth Records with your Digital ID to create an account
- You’ll need your Alberta Personal Health Number; this is located on your Alberta Healthcare Card.
- If you don’t know your Alberta Personal Health Number, call the AHCIP office at 780-427-1432 to order a replacement Healthcare Card.
- To be considered fully vaccinated, a traveller must have received the full series of a vaccine – or combination of vaccines – accepted by the Government of Canada at least 14 days prior to entering Canada.
- Travellers who arrive on the 14th day after receiving their final dose of a vaccination are not considered fully vaccinated. To be considered fully vaccinated, the traveller would need to seek entry on the 15th day.
- At this time, people who have previously recovered from COVID-19 and have received one (1) vaccine dose are not considered fully vaccinated.There are no changes to those travellers who are not fully vaccinated and they must complete the 14 day mandatory isolation period.
Final determination regarding this exemption is made by a government representative at the border based on the information presented at the time of entry into Canada.
Entry to countries other than Canada may involve alternative and/or additional requirements. Be sure to research travel requirements for countries other than Canada prior to travelling.
COVID-19 Information for Employers/Employees
Health screening for staff (specific questions and temperature checks) is required at businesses/facilities across Siksika in order to help identify and prevent spread of COVID-19.
What to do if Staff Fail the Health Screening at the Start of a Work Shift, or if Staff Become Ill at Work?
- If a staff person fails screening or they develop any illness symptoms while at work:
- The ill staff person should put a mask on immediately.
- Advise staff to go home immediately and home isolate for 10 days.
- If they need to see a doctor call 403-734-5690, Mon-Fri from 9am-4pm.
- COVID-19 testing is encouraged at this time for anyone who lives or works in Siksika with ANY NEW or CHANGE in symptoms, in order to detect COVID-19 on the Nation.
- Call the CRU at 403-734-5688 to arrange testing for COVID-19.
- If the staff person is an ESSENTIAL WORKER, in addition to the above steps, their supervisor should encourage the ill staff person to get tested asap and notify them that a referral will be made to the Community Health team to expedite their return to work. They should expect a call from a Community Health Nurse. Please note that this process is for ESSENTIAL STAFF ONLY, as the clinic does not have capacity to accommodate referrals for all staff at this time.
- Supervisor should email firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible and ask for a call back, or they can call 403-734-5690 and ask for a community health nurse.
- PLEASE – no employee names or health info in emails
- Health team will communicate with the Supervisor to get employee details, but please note that workers are not obligated to get tested, and personal health information about employees cannot be shared.
- Health team will communicate with Supervisor once the staff person is deemed to have low risk of COVID-19 transmission in the workplace. Return to work can occur once symptoms resolved.
Other Information for Employers/Employees
People without symptoms do not have to self-isolate unless they are asked to do so by a Community Health Nurse or other member of Siksika’s public health team. Please do not advise your staff to self-isolate without consulting with email@example.com or unless a public health team member has instructed you to do so.
