Oki Siksikawa:

RE:  Community Update on COVID-19 Cases at Siksika Elders Lodge

The Siksika Elder’s Lodge (SEL) is currently experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak, as members of the Elder’s Lodge community have tested positive for the virus, including 5 residents. Siksika’s Communicable Disease Control (CDC) Team and our Siksika Health Services Medical professionals has advised that the risk of further spread to residents and essential staff is high at this time.

Currently, all of the individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, including residents, are doing well, with most experiencing only mild symptoms. Residents are being supported and closely monitored by SEL staff, who are working with all Siksika Health Services teams to support the Residents’ health and well-being, as they safely and comfortably isolate in their own rooms.

All Residents have received their vaccinations, including the 3rd dose (booster shot). Elders Lodge staff and Team Lead are also vaccinated, with most having also received their 3rd does, for continued protection of our SEL Residents, themselves and their families.

As per recommendations from the Siksika CDC Team, all SEL residents and staff will continue to be tested on-site or on a weekly basis until the outbreak is declared over.  All staff are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for all resident interactions, including masks and eye protection, when engaging in patient interactions that occur within two metres.  Thorough cleaning and disinfection of all high touch surfaces throughout the facility will occur three times daily, or when surfaces or equipment are contaminated.

Siksikawa, we invite you to join your prayers with ours as we hold our beloved SEL Residents in our hearts, and we ask for cooperation and respect for the protective measures that are in full effect at this time. We request that all residents and their families/friends cooperate with any restrictions or guidance in place due to the pandemic.  Together with SEL staff, we continue to work very diligently to ensure that our residents’ comfort and safety are at the forefront, and practice daily public health measures for continued safety.

The Siksika Elders Lodge Team has become extremely busy ensuring that residents’ health and safety is prioritized, therefore going forward, all direct communication will be to those who are listed as the main contact for each resident.  Updates will be provided as soon as possible, as they become available, to residents’ main contacts, with updates provided to the public as recommended via Siksika Health Services’ official communication platforms, including:  website www.siksikahealth.com and social media platforms.  Thank you for your time and cooperation, stay safe.

Respectfully yours in Health,

Corrine (Kory) Anaatsiikanasoyaki Duck Chief –  SEL Team Leader
