Siksika Nation has diligently provided COVID-19 testing to Nation members every day since March. Currently, testing of asymptomatic people and employees at worksites has very low positive results rates of 9.5 per 10,000 tests, which means this testing is not the most effective at identifying disease in our community. Alberta has changed its testing program recently due to similarly low rates.

Based on this evidence of our testing program, Siksika Health Services is adjusting our testing criteria to maximize possible identification of COVID-19 on the Nation.
Beginning November 2, 2020, Siksika Health Services will provide testing to those in the following categories:
  • People with ANY new or worsening symptoms of any kind;
  • Anyone who is a contact of someone suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19, while they are potentially infectious;
  • People returning from a high-risk area or workplace setting;
  • Anyone who is concerned that they may have been exposed.
Testing will be offered to Siksika Nation members, and to those who live or work in Siksika, Gleichen, Cluny or Arrowood. Workplace testing will continue at the Siksika Elder’s Lodge only.
Please remember that if you are sick, even with mild symptoms, stay home and self-isolate. Sick individuals should wear a mask, wash their hands regularly, keep their distance from others, and avoid touching common surfaces to reduce the spread of germs. If coughing or sneezing, it’s best to cover coughs and sneezes with your sleeve or elbow, rather than your hands.

If you, or anyone in your household feels unwell for ANY reason, with ANY new symptoms or change in symptoms, call 403-734-5688 to contact Siksikas COVID-19 Response Unit (CRU). The CRU can assess and test individuals for possible COVID-19 infection in their homes, 7 days a week. The CRU also offers a drive-thru option at the tents near the ball diamonds, open 10:00am-1:00pm daily, 7 days/week.
